Big entry for cattle at Rathfriland with over 100 bullocks

There was a big entry of cattle on Friday with over 100 bullocks and over 70 heifers.

Suckler cows sold to £1400 for an Aughlisnafin farmer with fat cows to £1145 for 796k from Ballynahinch.

The bullocks topped at £1325 for a 752k lot from Corbet with others at £1300 and £1180.

Over 70 heifers sold to £970 for 504k from Ballyardle.

A big entry of weanlings cleared up to £830 with many over the £2.00 per kilo mark, eg 252k at £610 or 242p/k. Dropped calves to £470, £425 and £400 etc.

Monday evening’s breeding sheep sale saw prices for breeding ewes up by £10 per head on the week. A Cabra farmer sold three lots of six suffolks cheviot cross at £155, £152 and £148. A Castlewellan farmer sold 11 hoggets at £150 each. Fedney farmer: 3 lots at £148, £145 and £142. Hilltown farmer: 3 lots at £145 each and one lot at £148. Full mouth ewes sold to £115 each. Next breeding sheep sale is Monday 5th September at 7.00pm.

1500 sheep on Tuesday evening sold again in a better trade. A pen of 25k lambs from Rathfriland sold at £90 followed by 25.5k from Dromore at £88. Longstone farmer: 23.5k at £87. Annaclone farmer: 24k at £86.50. Hilltown farmer: 24.5k at £86 for three lots. The top 10 lots sold from £84 to £90. Balynanny farmer: 22k at £80. Hilltown farmer: 15.5k at £60.50. Ballynahinch farmer: 17.5k at £70.50. Fedney farmer: 14.5k at £58. Rostrevor farmer: 12.5k at £51 or 408 pence per kilo.
