Bullock prices top £1070 for 730k at Markethill

An entry of 850 store cattle, weanlings, and sucklers at Markethill on 22nd October continued to sell in a very strong demand. Buyers and sellers from throughout Northern Ireland were in attendance.

BULLOCKS: The 305 bullocks continued to sell in a very strong trade for all classes. Good quality forward steers from £190 to £214 for 504k at £1080 followed by £209 for 614k Angus at £1280. Suitable middleweight steers from£200 to £224 for 402k at £900. Lightweight steers in exceptionally strong demand to £253 for 324k at £820 followed by £246 for 344k at £845. Main demand from £200 to £239 per 100 kilos. Friesian steers in excellent demand from £140 to £167 for 580k at £970. Top price £1070 for 730k (147).

A large entry of sucklers sold £1960 for a Lim cow and bull calf. Others sold at £1400, £1380 and £1250.

Dairy stock sold to £130 at Markethill on Tuesday 25th October for a calved heifer from a Loughbrickland farmer. The same owner received £1240 for a calved heifer. An entry of 20 maiden heifers sold to £900 each with several more from £800 to £890. The average price for the 20 heifers was £804 each.

CULL COWS: The 200 cull cows sold in a steady trade with fleshed cows from £120 to £135 for 710k at £955. Friesian cows from £100 to 3113 for 714k at £810. Second quality friesians sold from £80 to £90 per 100 kilos with the poorest types from £50 to £70 per 100 kilos.
