Car burnt out in racially motivated attack in south Belfast

A car has been set alight in a racist attack in south Belfast.

Police are appealing for witnesses following the incident of criminal damage in the Ebor Street area during the early hours of this morning (January 26).

A PSNI spokesman said they received a report around 2am of a car on fire in the area.

He said the Northern Ireland Fire Service attended the scene and the fire was extinguished leaving the “car extensively damaged as a result of the incident”.

He said: “The incident is being investigated as a racially motivated hate crime and Inspector Jamie Hughes is appealing for anyone who witnessed the incident or anyone with any information that can assist with the investigation to contact officers in Lisburn Road on the non-emergency number 101.

“Information can also be passed anonymously via the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
