Children as young as 10 in school blaze quiz

Police have revealed that two boys aged 10, plus a girl aged 11, have been questioned over a fire at Holy Child primary school in the Creggan area of Londonderry on Monday night.

The attended a police station voluntarily, and the PSNI said: “They were interviewed and subsequently released pending a report to the Youth Diversion Officer.”

Fire Service district commander Kevin Lynch said fire crews were called to the scene shortly after 9pm.

“When we arrived, building materials on the roof had been set alight,” he said.

“The quick action of the fire service meant we were able to extinguish the fire before it got a chance to get into the structure of the building.”

Four appliances from Crescent Link and Northland Fire Station attended the scene.

The fire was brought under control shortly before midnight.
