Co Tyrone farmer fined £2,000 for polluting waterway

A farmer has been given a £2,000 fine for polluting a waterway.

Co Tyrone man Trevor Irwin from Ballymaguire Road in Coagh, pleaded guilty at Dungannon Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday to polluting the waterway, part of the Ballinderry River system, when farm tanks overflowed.

On July 8, 2014, inspectors acting on behalf of the Northern Ireland Environment Agency inspected the Aghaveagh Stream at Drumard Road and “observed the waterway to be grey/brown in colour and smelling strongly of an agricultural nature”.
