Ulster Unionist MLA Neil Somerville knew Mr Campbell and said he was highly regarded for his work.

Mr Somerville said: “Eugene Campbell was originally from Clogher but had lived in Donaghmore for many years, and was well known throughout the entire district.

“Thousands of homes had their chimneys cleaned each year and he will be a sad loss to the local community. He was always in huge demand and was an expert in his field.”

The Fermanagh and South Tyrone representative added: “He was also an accomplished musician and did much work for local charities, and to his wife Marion and family circle we extend our heartfelt sympathies at this tragic time.”

Mr Somerville’s party colleague Councillor Kenneth Reid also expressed his condolences to Mr Campbell’s family.

“His family circle will be devastated and our hearts and thoughts go out to them. Any chimneys we ever needed cleaned over the years we always got Eugene because he was very clean, very tidy and really good at his job.

“It is a sad, sad day for the whole community as well as Eugene’s family,” Mr Reid added.

A spokeswoman for the HSENI said: “The Health and Safety Executive for Northern Ireland has been notified of an incident resulting in the death of a chimney sweep in the Dungannon area and is currently investigating.

“Our thoughts are with the family at this most difficult time.”
