Condolences after man and woman killed in A1 crash

They were named by police as 87-year-old Raymond Halliday and 47-year-old Anna Dodds. Both were from the Newry area.

The collision, involving a lorry, a silver Skoda Fabia and a bronze coloured Ford Focus, happened around 2.45pm on Friday on the north bound carriageway at the Moneymore Road junction.

Mr Halliday died at the scene and Ms Dodds died a short time later in hospital.

The Northern Ireland Ambulance Service sent a rapid response paramedic, two emergency crews, one non-emergency crew and a BASICS doctor to the scene.

The charity air ambulance was also tasked to the incident.

Following initial assessment treatment at the scene, one patient was taken by ambulance to the Royal Victoria Hospital and another to Daisy Hill Hospital in Newry.

Sinn Fein MLA for Upper Bann, John O’Dowd took to social media to express his condolences, tweeting: “Another tragedy on our roads, this time two people have lost their lives in a crash on the A1.

“My thoughts and prayers are with their family and friends.”

A PSNI spokesperson said: “Officers from the Collision Investigation Unit are investigating and would ask any witnesses or anyone with dash-cam footage which could assist them with their enquiries to contact them.”
