Court hearings postponed on Tuesday for judge's funeral

All court business across Northern Ireland on Tuesday morning has been postponed until 2pm to mark the funeral of Corinne Philpott, a serving judge who died last Thursday evening.

She was 62 and had the title of Deputy Recorder of Belfast, Her Honour Judge Philpott QC.

Until last year, when two women were appointed to become High Court judges, she had been the highest-ranking female judge in the Province.

The Court Service said: “This notice is to be brought to the attention of jurors, witnesses, parties to court proceedings, members of the legal professions.

“The funeral of Her Honour Judge Philpott QC is taking place tomorrow [Tuesday].

The Lord Chief Justice has directed that courts which are scheduled to commence on the

morning of Tuesday 21 st June will be postponed until 2pm.

“This direction applies to all court business, in all court venues in Northern Ireland.

“In the event that access to a court is required on the morning of Tuesday June 21 for an emergency or ex parte application, solicitors should make contact with the appropriate court office and this will be accommodated.”
