Man aged 32 due in court charged with sexual assault after woman's alleyway ordeal
A man has been charged in connection with the sexual assault of a woman in Londonderry.
The woman, aged in her 50s, was attacked in the Lecky Road area of south-western Londonderry at around 1.15am on Sunday.
She was approached “by an unknown man who pulled her into a nearby alleyway where he sexually assaulted her, and also repeatedly hit her to the face and banged her head off a wall,” said police.
“She sustained serious facial and other injuries as a result of this terrifying ordeal that she was only able to escape from after her attacker let her go. The woman was able to then raise the alarm for help and the suspect fled the scene on foot.”
A 32-year-old man arrested later on Sunday in relation to the attack has now been charged with sexual assault by penetration and grievous bodily harm.
He is due to appear before Londonderry Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday morning.
