The attack happened in the Pembroke Manor area (a neighbourhood which police describe as ‘Dunmurry’, but is more accurately the Colin district in the republican-dominated section of the city).

The man was arrested in the west Belfast area on suspicion of attempted murder, possession of a firearm in suspicious circumstances, discharging a firearm in a public place and drugs offences.

He remains in police custody at this time.

At the time of the shooting, the PSNI said the attack happened just before 7pm, and that several cartridge shells were found on the street outside.

Two masked men, in black, were seen leaving the area.

No-one had been in at the time, but the PSNI said the attack was “planned and ruthless” and could well have killed people in the house.

The police said: “It’s also shocking that such a reckless act took place at a time when people, possibly children, would have been out and about and possibly passing by.”
