Cherished British Empire Medal among items stolen during east Belfast burglary

A family living in east Belfast have been left devastated after their house was ransacked in a burglary which took place in broad daylight this week.

Their home in the Orangefield area was targeted on Tuesday around lunchtime and among the items taken was a British Empire Medal.

William Ewart received the medal for his work at the shipyards during World War Two when Harland and Wolff became a major munitions manufacturer to help the war effort.

His name is written along the side of the medal which will make the stolen item easy to identify if the thieves try to pass on what was an incredibly cherished possession.

Another distintive item taken from the house was a Brietling Colt Ocean A17050 watch.

During the burglary a wallet containing bank cards, a TV and a mobile phone were also taken.
