Family escape serious injury after petrol poured through letterbox and set alight at NI home - man and woman inside property treated for smoke inhalation

Petrol has been poured through a letterbox and set alight at a NI property in the early hours of this morning.

Detectives are appealing for information following the arson attack at residential premises in the Glenrosa Link area of north Belfast.

The attack happened shortly after 4.30am and it was reported to police that petrol had been poured through a letter box of a house in the area and set alight.

The PSNI statement adds that extensive damage was caused to the front door, the porch, hallway ceiling and upstairs floor of the property.

Smoke damage was also reported throughout the house following the incident.

Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service attended the scene and extinguished the fire.

Meanwhile a woman in her 40s and a man in his 20s who were inside the house were later treated at the scene for smoke inhalation.

Detectives are now trying to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident and police would appeal to anyone who witnessed anything suspicious in the area to contact detectives on 101, quoting reference number 188 03/09/20.

Alternatively, information can also be provided to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 which is 100% anonymous and gives people the power to speak up and stop crime.
