Five arrests after car stolen, chased and crashed following Belfast burglary

Three men and two women have been arrested following what police described as a “creeper style burglary” in north Belfast yesterday morning.

The incident happened in the Premier Drive area of the city.

A spokesperson for the PSNI said a silver Toyota Corolla was stolen at around 4.50am yesterday.

The car was later spotted in Newtownabbey, and then failed to stop for police officers who gave chase.

Later, the car was also reported to have collided with two vehicles before it came to a stop in the Antrim Road.

PSNI Detective Sergeant Arnott, speaking following the five arrests yesterday, said: “We received a report that the vehicle had been spotted in the Rathcoole area of Newtownabbey this afternoon.

“A short time later the vehicle failed to stop for officers and an authorised pursuit was initiated.

“The car was reported to have collided with two vehicles before it came to a halt in the Antrim Road area this afternoon.”

The detective continued: “Three men, aged 30, 28, and 25 were arrested on suspicion of burglary and motoring offences.

“A 29 year old woman and a 24 year old woman were arrested on suspicion of aggravated vehicle taking in which the vehicle is driven dangerously.”

The PSNI said all five were assisting police with their enquiries yesterday evening.

Detective Sergeant Arnott said: “We are continuing to appeal to anyone with any information to contact police on 101 quoting reference number 397 13/04/20.”
