Hand grenade sparks rural security alert and evacuations

Police were summoned to a small cul-de-sac in a townland between Lurgan and Dromore today after a potential explosive device was found.

It unfolded in the Gamblestown Park area, a small street not far from Donaghcloney.

The PSNI said: “Police attended a report of a suspicious object this afternoon (Friday 14th May) and an old, deactivated grenade was removed from the scene.

“A number of residents who were evacuated from their homes have now returned to their properties.
