Householder woke to find burglar in bedroom – who then fled with their mobile phone

Police have said tonight that officers investigating a burglary in the Donegall Road area of south Belfast have arrested a 36-year-old man.

The PSNI said that it was reported to police that sometime between 1.35am and 1.45am, on February 2, the occupant of the house woke to find an unknown male in their bedroom.

It said: “The man made off from the scene and a tablet and mobile phone were taken during the incident.

“A 36-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of burglary and is assisting police with their enquiries.

“Enquiries are continuing and we would appeal to anyone who witnessed anything suspicious in the area at the time of the incident to contact police on 101, quoting reference number 190 02/02/20.”

Donegall Road runs for some distance through the loyalist-dominated Village and Sandy Row districts of south Belfast, before continuing on the other side of the Broadway roundabout, which is a republican-dominated area.

Police did not indicate which part of Donegall Road was targeted in the burglary.
