Ian Ogle killing: Two more suspects charged with murder

Two more suspects are to be prosecuted in relation to the murder of east Belfast man Ian Ogle.

Mr Ogle, 45, was beaten and stabbed to death by a gang near his home at Cluan Place in the city in January 2019.

The Public Prosecution Service has decided to prosecute two more men, aged 39 and 37, with murder.

It has also decided prosecute four men and one woman for the offences of withholding information and assisting offenders.

A Preliminary Inquiry date has been fixed by the court to take place on November 12.

A PPS spokesperson said last night: “The PPS can confirm that a decision has been taken to prosecute a further two suspects who were reported to this office by the PSNI for the offence of murder.

“A decision has been taken to prosecute five others for associated offences and the Ogle family have been informed of these decisions.

“As this is a live case there should be no reporting, commentary or sharing of information online which could in any way prejudice proceedings.”

In June Belfast Magistrates’ Court heard a decision has been taken to proceed with cases against Mark Sewell, Jonathan Brown and Glenn Rainey over their alleged involvement in the killing.

The fatal attack was said to have lasted for around 30 seconds.
