Killer Thomas McCabe returned to Maghaberry after two years on the run

A convicted murderer from Northern Ireland who had been on the run for more than two years has finally been returned to prison.

A PSNI spokesperson said: “Unlawfully at large prisoner Thomas McCabe has been returned to HMP Maghaberry.

“The 56-year-old had been unlawfully at large since his licence was revoked in January 2018 following a number of breaches.

“He was arrested in the Republic on August 26 following PSNI appeals to trace his whereabouts.

“He was extradited from the Republic of Ireland earlier today and returned to prison.”

McCabe, who was sentenced to life for murder, was released from prison on licence, however following a number of breaches his licence was revoked in January 2018.

He had been imprisoned for killing a teenager in London.

In June, a reward of up to £5,000 was offered by the Crimestoppers charity for information leading to his arrest.
