Man held on suspicion of attempted murder after report of efforts to burn a neighbour alive after dousing him with fluid

Detectives have announced tonight that they are investigating an act of possible attempted murder outside a house in the Silverstream Avenue area of north-west Belfast.

The police received a report at around 3.30pm on Tuesday afternoon that a man had doused a male neighbour with some form of accelerant and then attempted to set it alight in the housing estate, which stands off the Ballysillan Road.

The neighbour managed to evade his attacker however and the suspect was arrested by police a short time later.

A 29-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and is currently in custody assisting officers with their enquiries.

Detectives would ask anyone who witnessed the incident or who may have mobile phone footage to contact them at Musgrave on 101 quoting reference number 1144 21/04/20.
