Man in critical condition after late night shooting

Police received a report of a shooting in Hopewell Crescent at about 11.15pm.

“A man in his 20s has been taken to hospital where his condition is described as critical,” police said.

“We would urge anyone who was in the area at the time or who may have any information which may assist us to contact 101.”

SDLP West Belfast Councillor Brian Heading has condemned those behind a shooting.

He said: “There is no place for this kind of vicious attack on the streets of Belfast.

“People in this community don’t need it, don’t want it and don’t deserve it.

“Those responsible need to get off our backs.

“I would appeal to anyone who saw or heard anything suspicious in or around Good Shepherd Road to come forward to police.

“We need to help identify those responsible and get them off our streets.”
