Police claimed Neill McGreevy was involved in a “nasty” incident last weekend which involved shouting and swearing at the apartment block where other vulnerable adults live.

The 27-year-old, of Eglantine Avenue in the south of the city, faces charges of disorderly behaviour and exposing his genitals with intent to cause alarm.

Belfast Magistrates’ Court heard others reported he had been verbally abusive at his accommodation on Sunday evening.

PSNI officers went to the scene and spoke to him through the window, but were unable to gain access to the building.

A constable said: “Police left the area and then received further reports that the defendant had exposed his genitals and tried to urinate from the window, causing members of the public distress.”

McGreevy was later located and arrested inside the block of flats, but allegedly ignored warnings to moderate his behaviour.

Two potential witnesses have provided statements about what happened, the court heard.

Opposing bail, the constable claimed it was linked to an earlier episode where a co-accused was smashing bottles in the street.

“There’s another resident in the property who is a cancer patient receiving treatment,” she said.

“There are also several vulnerable adults living in that property.”

According to police McGreevy’s accommodation at Eglantine Avenue has now been revoked.

“(The landlord) told the investigating officer that he has burnt his bridges,” the constable added.

Defence solicitor Mark Crawford said McGreevy suffers from a low IQ.

“At it’s height this was more of a nuisance than a sexual (incident),” Mr Crawford insisted.

Bail was granted for the accused to live at an alternative address approved by police.

District Judge George Conner ordered: “He is not to enter Eglantine Avenue, and have no contact with any prosecution witnesses.”
