Man with 130+ convictions who has been caught stealing in breach of suspended sentence 'trying to deal with his issues' says judge

A man with over 130 previous convictions caused criminal damage when he pulled a tag off in an attempt to steal a Hugo Boss t-shirt from Sports Direct.

Paul Millar, 43, with an address listed as Tobar Fold in Cullybackey, committed the criminal damage on April 6 this year.

He was on prison release licence at the time and was in breach of a six months suspended sentence.

A defence solicitor told Ballymena Magistrates' Court today the defendant committed the criminal damage whilst being under the influence of pregabalin.

District Judge Nigel Broderick said it appears Millar is trying to address his underlying issues and the defendant was "very lucky" not to be jailed.

Sentencing was deferred until May next year.
