More than 5,000 PSNI Covid enforcement actions since March

Police have issued 3,640 fixed penalty notices and almost 1,400 Community Resolution Notice (CRN) cautions in relation to Covid regulation breaches since March this year.

The new figures released on Monday show that the majority of CRNs were issued in Belfast (422), followed by Armagh, Banbridge and Craigavon area (182), Derry City/Strabane (180) and Antrim/Newtownabbey (114).

More than 2,100 COV1 penalty notices were issued (maximum £60 fine) prior to November 12 when it was replaced by the COV4 notice (minimum £200 fine, reduced to £100 if paid within 14 days).

Since November 12, police have issued 737 of the COV4 penalties.

A further 608 COV2 prohibition notices have been issued to the owners of private dwellings in relation to illegal gatherings, 49 COV3 notices for failing to isolate (£1,000 fine) and 22 COV5 penalties (£1,000 - £10,000 fine) for Covid regulation breaches at business premises. A total of 123 commercial premises were also handed a COV2 penalty notice.

The PSNI has also revealed that 374 officers and members of staff currently absent due to Covi-19, of which 313 are self-isolating.
