Newtownabbey police arrest driver on suspicion of possessing drugs

A motorist was arrested on suspicion of drugs possession after being netted in an overnight speeding clampdown by the PSNI in Newtownabbey.

According to Police Antrim and Newtownabbey, the driver, who was “travelling at excess speed”, also had his vehicle searched and “was found to be in possession of suspected Class A & B drugs”.

Police added that the male is now in custody.

The PSNI said: “We listen to our communities and all too often hear that the Shore Road is being used like a race track late at night.

“A number of motorists were stopped by our patrols. Some were given advice and others were issued with fixed penalty notices.

“One particular driver was travelling at 60mph. That’s 50% in excess of the speed limit.

“Please be responsible and stick to the rules whilst on our roads.”
