Old munitions found at cemetery

Old munitions were found at a Belfast cemetery today after a security alert.

PACEMAKER BELFAST 09/06/2020 Police are currently at the scene of a security alert in West Belfast. The incident, at the City Cemetery on the Falls Road comes after the discovery of a suspicious item inside the cemetery grounds. A PSNI spokesperson said: "A section of the cemetery has been cordoned off whilst the item is examined and anyone intending to visit the cemetery today should plan for possible disruption."

Police and ATO attended the scene at Belfast City Cemetery on the Falls Road in the west of the city after a suspicious object was found.

The object was examined at the scene and was described as old munitions which are in a non-viable state.

Further examinations of items recovered will be carried out in due course.
