Paul Quinn family hopeful of developments in murder case

The family of murder victim Paul Quinn have said they are encouraged by recent activity around his case.

Mr Quinn was beaten to death by a mob in a cattle shed just south of the Irish border in 2007, with local IRA members widely blamed for the killing, which was said to have arisen from a long-standing personal dispute.

The case remains unsolved.

Today, his mother Breege met with Garda boss Drew Harris, and afterwards issued this message to the News Letter: “It was a very positive meeting.

“He stated that progress has been made following the ‘serious case review’, and that significant recommendations are being followed up.

“I’m hopeful that some of those recommendations [will] lead to a breakthrough.

“I will continue to fight for justice for my son Paul.”

Ex-SDLP figure Tim Attwood accompanied her to the meeting.

It is understood the ‘serious case review’ involved re-examining any potential leads, as well as the forensic evidence which the Gardai hold.
