A number of items were also seized which will now be subject to forensic examination. The police investigation continues.

A PSNI spokesperson said: “Officers from the Police Service of Northern Ireland’s Terrorism Unit remain committed to tackling issues of serious crime in our community and encourage anyone with information that could assist in our efforts to contact us on the non-emergency number 101.”

DUP Upper Bann MP Carla Lockhart said: “Arrests are just the first stage and no one has been brought before the courts but I commend the PSNI on this operation. I understand this operation is in relation to historical dissident republican activity.

“Those with a warped mindset who justify terror need removed from our streets.

“This historical case is also a reminder to those who break the law that there will be no ‘sell by’ date on justice. Whether it was the PIRA or whatever variant from that organisation, where crime was committed, investigations will continue.

“As a society we have moved forward greatly, and it is important that those who seek to drag us back are brought to justice. They offer nothing but hurt and harm, destruction and division.”
