PSNI seize £655,000 worth of heroin and cannabis and arrest four people

The PSNI has seized suspected drugs including heroin and herbal cannabis worth over £655,000 and arrested four people.

The results came from searches at locations across South Belfast and the City Centre from Monday to Friday this week.

Inspector James Murphy said: “We remain fully committed to tackling the scourge of drugs in our communities and we will continue to proactively investigate and carry out searches linked to the drugs trade.

“The sale, supply and consumption of these incredibly harmful drugs is doing nothing but ruining lives and lining the pockets of organised criminals. We are determined to disrupt their activity and anyone involved in the drugs trade, or anyone tempted to become involved should be under no illusion - we will seek to identify them, arrest them and place them before the courts.

“I would repeat our appeal to anyone who can help us identify suspects or lines of enquiry to call the non-emergency number 101. Alternatively, information can also be given anonymously to the Crimestoppers charity on 0800 555 111.”

Police advised anyone with a drug or alcohol misuse problem to visit www.drugsandalcoholni.info for information on local support services.

Also today, officers from Ards and North Down District support team have seized suspected drugs worth an estimated value of £10,000 during a planned search of a property in Holywood this afternoon.

Superintendent Brian Kee said: “Suspected herbal cannabis, a small amount of cash and other related paraphernalia was seized.

“A man aged 25 was arrested on suspicion of a number of drug-related offences, including possession of a Class B controlled drug and possession of a Class B controlled drug with intent to supply.

“The man remains in custody this afternoon.

“This arrest and seizure demonstrate our ongoing commitment to removing and disrupting the illegal supply of drugs in Northern Ireland.”

He called on anyone with information on drug dealing to contact police on tel 101 or leave information anonymously on Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
