Roads outside PSNI headquarters shut down as Army perform controlled explosion

The PSNI has said a controlled explosion has been carried out after a bomb alert at its headquarters.

It said the Army were called in after “the discovery of a suspicious package” shortly after 5.35pm this afternoon.

The PSNI headquarters, known as Brooklyn, is in the Knock district of east Belfast.

The PSNI said: “ATO carried out a controlled explosion and the item was declared to be nothing untoward. It has been taken away for further forensic examination.

“A number of roads in the area were closed during the operation, but have now all fully re-opened.”
