Search and Rescue operation in Dromore Co Down after reports that a man entered the River Lagan
Search and Rescue volunteers are searching the River Lagan in Dromore after reports that a man entered the water.
Local DUP Councillor Paul Rankin said that police and Search & Rescue volunteers are active in the town after reports an elderly man entered the river late this afternoon.
"I have been liaising with both Police and Search & Rescue at the scene and am advised that they may have to continue their search operation throughout tonight and into tomorrow,” he said.
"Their focus will be on the river, from Bridge Street, through Dromore Park and out towards Dronore Community Centre.
“The family of this elderly man are foremost in our thoughts and prayers this evening as they come to terms with what has happened.
“I would ask local people to pray for this family and to give space to the emergency services to carry out their work over the coming day.
“As someone who lost my own Dad in sudden and tragic circumstances, I can understand the turmoil that this family will be going through, they will need our prayers.”
