Shots fired in ‘reckless’ attack on three men

Police have described an attack on three men at a house in Omagh as “brazen and reckless”.

The incident is reported to have occurred in the early hours of yesterday morning at Mullaghmore Drive.

Detectives have appealed for information after the three men sustained injuries to the face, head and body inflicted by three masked men

“It was also reported that a firearm was discharged inside the property,” an investigating officer said.

Detective Constable Una McKenna said: “It was reported to us just after midnight that three masked men arrived at an address in the area and demanded money, before forcing entry to the property.

“Police and NI Ambulance Service attended the scene where paramedics treated two of the victims. This was a brazen and reckless attack, for which there is no justification.”

D/Con McKenna added: “It is fortunate we are not dealing with serious injury or worse today.

“Enquiries are underway to establish a motive for this attack and who was involved, and I would urge anyone who saw any suspicious activity in the area just prior to, or around midnight, or has information which may assist our investigation to call us on 101, and quote reference number 7 of 10/04/20. McCrossan: shooting in Omagh deplorable

SDLP MLA Daniel McCrossan described the incident as “deplorable”. and said: “It is equally sickening and deplorable to hear of this incident in Omagh that could have easily led to the loss of life. Thankfully there have been no fatalities.”

Alliance councillor Stephen Donnelly said he is outraged at news of the incident and urged anyone with information to contact police.

“There is no place for guns in our community and such barbaric behaviour is a far cry from the peaceful and safe society we are striving to build,” he said.
