'Significant damage' caused during overnight fire at NI new build home - fire now said to be accidental

Significant damage has been caused to a new build home - under construction in Glenavy, Co Antrim.

Seven appliances and a specialist aerial unit responded to the blaze on Main Street at around 10.30pm on Monday.

Fire crews say an operation continued until around 5.30am today.

The cause of the fire is now said to be accidental - although initially it was said to be unknown and an investigation was put in place.

A spokesman from the Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue service said that seven Fire Appliances attended the incident.

They said firefighters were called to a fire in a semi-detached house on Main Street, Glenavy land the fire was well alight when Firefighters arrived.

Firefighters used hose reel jets to extinguish the fire.

They added that the incident was dealt with by 5.20am on Tuesday 11 February 2020.

The cause has been determined as accidental.
