Social worker from Belfast accused of assault, drunkness and threat to kill on Hurghada aeroplane

A woman has been charged with offences on board a plane to Egypt.

Nadine Nugent, 35, of Ardmoulin Place in west Belfast, is charged with behaving “in a threatening, abusive, insulting or disorderly manner towards a member of the crew of an aircraft”.

She is further charged with failing to obey a lawful command of a pilot, assaulting three people – two females and a male – and making a threat to kill one of the females.

There is a seventh charge that she "entered an aircraft when drunk, or were drunk in an aircraft”.

The flight was from Belfast International Airport to Hurghada, a tourist resort in eastern Egypt.

The defendant was not present at Antrim Magistrates' Court, sitting in Ballymena on Tuesday, but a defence barrister said he was "advised none of the matters are accepted".

The barrister said the "majority" of incidents appeared to have occurred "on the tarmac" at an airport in Egypt, and he said there may be "territorial issues", and issues about whether the plane is "British-controlled".

The lawyer said the defendant is a social worker.

The case was adjourned to December 9 to fix a date for a contest.
