Commenting on social media last night (Tuesday), a PSNI spokesperson said: “We’re receiving a shocking number of reports of criminal damage and attempted criminal damage in the Glengormley area, with youths throwing stones at passing vehicles and vehicles at McDonalds drive-through.

“Not only is this upsetting and costly for those vehicle owners affected, but it’s, quite frankly, extremely dangerous. Should a driver be startled by a flying stone and swerve to avoid it, a serious collision could occur.

“Parents, we know you’re doing your best, and most of your youngsters are well-behaved, but we need to ask you to speak to them about this, and impress upon them the consequences of such behaviour.

“Not only does this risk the safety of other persons, but both are criminal offences which could see them end up in custody, and receiving a criminal record. A record can stop career progression and future travel plans in their tracks.

“If your children are out this evening, please contact them and make sure they’re where they said they would be, and that they’re behaving themselves. You don’t want us to have to call you from the custody suite.”
