Taxi driver threatened with knife during hijacking ordeal

Police are appealing for witnesses to come forward after a taxi driver was assaulted and threatened with a knife during a hijacking in west Belfast.

The incident occurred at a filling station on the Andersonstown Road shortly after 9pm on Friday.

Police said two men with their faces covered got into the black Volkswagen Golf and struck the driver a number of times before he was able to run to safety.

The hijackers then drove off country-bound along the Andersonstown Road.

The driver did not require medical attention immediately following his ordeal.

Detectives have asked any witnesses, or anyone who has any information which could be of assistance to their investigation, to contact them at Musgrave on 101 quoting reference number 1777 29/01/21.
