Victim attacked with bottle: claim

A man found injured in a south Belfast park was allegedly attacked with a broken beer bottle, a court heard today.

Police who discovered him were also told he had been kicked to the head and face during fighting at Botanic Gardens last Friday night.

Details emerged as a 31-year-old man appeared at the city’s Magistrates Court accused of carrying out the attack.

Jason Strain, of Drumbeg Drive in Dunmurry, denies charges of assault occasioning actual bodily harm and possessing an offensive weapon with intent.

A detective said police went to the park following reports of clashes between a large group of males.

District Judge George Conner remanded Strain in custody, to appear again by video-link in two weeks time.
