Video footage released of man police want to trace in attempted murder probe

Video footage has been released by police of a man they want to speak to in connection with an attempted murder probe in west Belfast.

The development comes in the police investigation of the shooting of a 49-year-man as he sat inside a taxi on the morning of February 23 2025 in the Bell Steel Manor area.

On Tuesday police released footage of a person they said they believe may be able to assist with their inquiries.

The appeal is backed by a renewed reward of up to £20,000 from the charity Crimestoppers.

Detective Inspector Jack Kelly said: “This attack, in which a number of shots were fired, was a targeted and cold-blooded attempt to take a man’s life.

“It happened in broad daylight in a busy area of west Belfast, when anyone – any passer-by – could also have been injured or killed.

“Such shocking, premeditated violence has absolutely no place in today’s society, and we remain determined in our efforts to bring those responsible to justice.”

He added: “Today, we are releasing footage of a man whom we’re keen to speak with, as we believe he may be able to help with our investigation.

“Please take a good look at this footage. Importantly, we would ask you not to speculate about the man’s identity or post comments on social media. If you recognise him, please get in touch.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact police on 101, quoting reference 664 of 23/02/25.

Information can also be given to Crimestoppers, which is independent of police, and can be contacted with total anonymity on 0800 555 111 or online at www.crimestoppers-uk.org.

The charity is offering a reward of up to £20,000 for information received directly that leads to the arrest and conviction of any person or people linked to the attempted murder.
