Woman in critical condition after rush hour collision: Police appeal for witnesses after pedestrian hit by car in east Belfast
A woman has been left in critical condition in hospital after being hit by a car while walking in east Belfast yesterday evening.
The incident happened around 5.25pm yesterday on Hawthornden Way, part of the city’s Outer Ring dual carriageway that is regularly packed with commuters at rush hour and that also runs close to several residential areas.

The PSNI and Ambulance Service went to the scene, emergency services have confirmed, with police officers revealing the pedestrian was taken to hospital and as of this morning is still there, in a critical condition.
Hawthornden Way was closed off yesterday evening because of the crash, from Knock Road junction on Upper Newtownards Road that links Belfast with Stormont and Dundonald, to the Belmont Road roundabout close to Campbell College school.

The road later reopened and the police are now appealing for witnesses and anyone with video footage of the incident to come forward.
Said PSNI Sergeant Flanagan: “Officers received and responded to a report of a collision at Hawthornden Way shortly before 5.25pm.
“Colleagues from the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service also attended the scene. The pedestrian was subsequently taken to hospital, where she remains in a critical condition this morning.
“The road remained closed for a period of time yesterday but later reopened.
“Our enquiries are ongoing, and we would appeal to anyone who might have any dash-cam or mobile footage, or any information which might assist us, to get in touch via [non-emergency phone number] 101, and quote reference number 1151 of 11/12/25.”
