World War Two grenade leads to evacuations in densely-populated Belfast street

Homes were evacuated in the Ormeau / Annadale area of south Belfast after a suspicious device was found.

Police received a report of a suspicious object at the Haywood Avenue area this afternoon.

Officers attended and tasked the Army to examine the object, as a number of homes were evacuated during the incident.

The object has been declared “an old, WW2 deactivated, non-viable empty grenade”, and was removed from the area.
