The graves are in the Jewish section of the City Cemetery in west Belfast, and Rabbi David Singer was joined by politicians for the service, including the DUP’s Arlene Foster and UUP’s Steve Aiken.

In a statement, Mr Aiken said: “The desecration of the graves last year was a sickening act. The ongoing abuse of our Jewish community is truly appalling and we should be outspoken in our outright condemnation of such acts. Anti-Semitism in all its forms is repugnant.

“The Jewish community have a long and distinguished history in Northern Ireland and are part of the very fabric of our society.

“We should all be very proud of the role they have played and do all we can to ensure that they are able to live free from harassment from fascists and bigots.”
