Dramatic scenes as emergency services battle fire in recycling centre in Cookstown

Emergency services have responded to a fire at the Cookstown Recycling Centre.

The fire on Saturday evening was isolated to the wood stock pile at the site.

A council spokesperson said the fire was brought under control. and no-one was injured.

Chair of the Council’s Environment Committee, Councillor Wilbert Buchanan, who was at the scene, said: “I’d like to reassure local people that the situation is under control and thank the emergency services and our staff who are working to extinguish the fire.”

He added that details of any impact on the centre’s re-opening will be released in due course.
