Driver flees after striking pedestrian in Belfast

Police are appealing for witnesses following a hit and run road traffic collision on Lisburn Road in Belfast on Saturday night.

It was reported that shortly before 10pm a male pedestrian was struck by a car on Lisburn Road close to Wellesley Avenue, not far from Ryan’s pub.

The man, aged in his 40s, was taken to hospital for treatment for his injuries that are described as serious.

The silver coloured car – which may have significant frontal damage – did not stop and continued countrywards along the Lisburn Road.

It is believed it may have then turned left heading in the direction of the Malone Road.

Inspector McBain is appealing for anyone who was on the Lisburn Road last night and who witnessed the collision, or anyone with any information about the silver coloured car to contact officers in Lisburn Road on 101 quoting reference number 1512 of 10/09/16.
