Dropped calves to £510 at Rathfriland

Dropped calves were exceptionally dear on Friday with a really good entry selling to £510 for a Lim bull two months old from a Castlewellan farmer.

A Hilltown farmer sold two Ch bull calves at £500 and £400. Two Her bulls from Castlewellan sold at £340 each. Her heifers sold to £300 for a Kilkeel farmer.

A big entry of weanlings sold to £850 for males and £735 for heifers from Millford. A top pence per kilo of 238.5p was paid to a Dunturk farmer for a 260k Ch at £620. In the heifer section, £1130 was paid for a 630k BB from Rathfriland with others to 214p/k for a 356k BB at £700.

Bullocks cleared up to 225 pence per kilo for a 325k Sim at £800 from Banbridge. A top price of £1095 to a Ringsend farmer for a 562k OTM MBE.

On Tuesday evening a smaller entry cleared up to £91 for a lot of 3 weighing 32k from Dromara. A Mayobridge farmer reached £82 for 25k. Dromore farmer: 32k at £80. Lisnadill farmer: 23.8k at £79. Mulladun farmer: 23.7k at £76.50. Ballynahinch farmer: 24.5k at £76.50. Ringsend farmer: 23.6k at £76.
