Election Diary: Susan Anne White back on ballot papers

Susan Anne White is fighting her fourth election in less than four years on a manifesto which leans heavily on the Old Testament for inspiration.

Her past manifestos have included proposals to make adultery a punishable offence, recriminalise homosexuality and restore corporal punishment to schools.

One of Mrs White’s past manifesto commitments – to withdraw from the “money-wasting and decadent” EU – has since been decided in last year’s referendum.

Speaking to her local newspaper, the Ulster Herald, Mrs White outlined her opposition to “the Islamisation of the UK”, “the LGBT agenda” and “other evils such as abortion, illegal drugs and animal cruelty”.

She vowed to keep speaking out.

The Ulster Herald noted that Mrs White had received just 85 votes in last year’s Assembly election. However, the paper noted that this total was almost double the vote of the Conservative candidate, Roger Lomas.

Like Mrs White, Mr Lomas is standing again on March 2.

Brexit compromise?

The UUP and SDLP have criticised the DUP and Sinn Fein Executive for failing to come up with a Brexit plan – but the opposition parties are similarly divided on the issue.

The UUP favours accepting the result of the referendum and securing the best deal, while the SDLP is pledged to fight Brexit all the way.

Asked about that, UUP leader Mike Nesbitt insisted that they can strike a compromise agreement, saying: “We have a plan which would be part of a negotiation with our partners.”
