Properties located in the surrounding area have been evacuated – and the Ardoyne Community Centre has been opened for local residents.

Cordons are also in place.

Police ask that the public avoid the Rosapenna Street and Cliftonville Road areas at this time, as officers remain at the scene, with enquiries set to continue for some time.

It is anticipated that there will be significant traffic disruption to the Cliftonville Road area during the morning rush hour, so police ask that motorists should seek an alternative route for their journey.

Police added ‘We understand the disruption this may cause, however, public safety is always our priority.
