The fatality follows on from the death of Ann Marshall in a one-car accident in the Cookstown area yesterday morning, and a pedestrian being struck by a vehicle on the outskirts of Newtownards on Tuesday evening.

PSNI Inspector Dave Stewart, from the collision investigation unit, said police were called to the Hillsborough crash at around 7.15am, along with the Ambulance and Fire services.

“Sadly, the man passed away at the scene,” he said. “A second man was taken to hospital for treatment to his injuries.

“Diversions remain in place at the following junctions with Ballynahinch Road – Spirehill Road, Beatties Road and Tullymore Road.

“Our enquiries are continuing and we would appeal to anyone who witnessed the collision, or who may have digital footage which could assist with our investigation, to contact the Collision Investigation Unit on 101, quoting reference number 187 of 12/02/26.”
