Create your own adventure at Mount Stewart this World Book Day

This World Book Day, visitors to Mount Stewart won't just be reading about adventures, they'll be creating exciting ones of their own with the opening of a magical new natural play area on the estate.

Named the Magic Inkpot, after the mythical children’s novel written by Edith, Lady Londonderry for her children, the natural play area was created by a team of rangers and volunteers using the natural resources of the surrounding woodland to craft a series of fun obstacles including balance beams, stepping logs, a tree cave, squirrel run and dragon climbing frame.

Children can also have fun spotting and identifying the wooden carved animals that are hidden around the area, but only if they can avoid waking the sleeping dragon.

During Saturday 4 March, World Book Day will be celebrated with a series of storytelling sessions and visitors big and small are being encouraged to dress up as their favourite literary character.

At 1pm, characters from the Magic Inkpot will lead a guided walk from the front of the house to the new natural play area, where the link between Edith’s magical tale and the play area will be revealed before the official ribbon cutting ceremony.

Back at the house, visitors will have a unique opportunity to hear about some of the amazing discoveries made during an exciting project to catalogue over 4,500 books housed in Lady and Lord Londonderry’s sitting rooms.

Children will also be able to redeem their World Book Day vouchers at the property over the weekend for one of the ten exclusive World Book Day books.
