Competitors and visitors travelled from all across Ireland in support of the event following Listooder’s top young ploughman, Andrew Gill, diagnosis of leukaemia last year.

Speaking after the event, society chairman, Mr Martin Gill, Andrew’s grandfather, paid tribute to all who were involved in the successful match.

Mr Gill said: “It has been a truly fantastic day. Thank you to Mr Colm Cultra for the use of a wonderful site here in Ardglass and we owe a huge debt of gratitude to his neighbour Mr Danny Leneghan and his family for helping to host our match.

“Thank you to everyone who made a contribution to our match – competitors, other ploughing societies, Young Farmers’ Clubs, local businesses and individuals who donated prizes and made donations, Masseys of Saintfield for catering, PSNI, judges, Friends of the Cancer Centre staff and our own hard working committee.

“We know the money raised will go to provide much needed support to cancer patients and their families.”
