A series of drive-in concerts will be staged across three days at the beginning of next month on Belfast’s iconic maritime mile at the Titanic Slipways.

The drive-in shows will include a celebration of Abba’s greatest music, a Queen tribute act, and ‘Proms in the Car Park’ with Noel Thompson.

Organised by the singer, director, producer and actor Peter Corry, the drive-in concerts have been designed with a range of measures in place to prevent the spread of coronavirus.

Mr Corry said he’s looking forward to bringing back live music.

“The entertainment industry was knocked sideways when lockdown took hold of Northern Ireland, but we are pleased that with the easing of some restrictions we are now in a position to put in place a programme of events that will satisfy the needs of lovers of live entertainment of all ages across the Province,” he said.

“With almost all live performances being cancelled this summer and for the foreseeable future, and with no real end in sight as to when we can get together and enjoy live music and shows in the normal way, we felt there was a real need to be proactive and to do something different to bring live entertainment back to the people of Northern Ireland as soon and as safely as possible.”

He added: “This event will give people that all-important morale boost that only music does and we’re confident that these exciting drive-in concerts are the answer for now.”

The event will allow a maximum of 300 cars for the shows on the Paddock area off the Queen’s Road, with tickets priced per car with no limit – providing everyone is from the same household – on the number of people permitted in each vehicle other than the usual legal limit.

Concert-goers will be able to tune in to performances on their car radios. Vans, trailers, large people carriers and motorcycles are excluded, the organisers have said.

Concerts include The Magic of Queen with Flash Harry, Recreating Abba with the Bjorn Identity, The Musicals with Peter Corry, Proms in the Car Park with Noel Thompson, and Once Upon A Time with The Real Princesses NI.
