NICCA sign lease for the Lower Reservoir in Conlig

Northern Ireland Cross Community Angling are pleased to announce that they have signed a long term management lease with DAERA Inland Fisheries on the Lower Reservoir in Conlig, Co Down.

Northern Ireland Cross Community Angling (NICCA) have announced that they have signed a long term management lease with DAERA Inland Fisheries on the Lower Reservoir in Conlig, Co Down

The site will become a multi sports complex, with activities including coarse angling with training for canoeing, sub-aqua and triathlon taking place.

The facility is ideally located on the Bangor Road just off the main A21 carriageway between Bangor and Newtownards.

Bait and tackle is available locally from Bangor Angling Centre which is just 1.6kms away.

Day tickets to the public will be available from Today’s Local convenience store at 26-28 Main Street, Conlig, Co Down.

Tickets will be available from 8:00, seven days a week.

Angling on the facility will not be available until mid-2019 as the site requires capital development work, with the aim to provide over 50 angling pegs as well as onsite car parking which meets standards for use by people with disabilities.

Access for canoeists, triathletes and divers will be from the May 2017.

The facility will remain open to local residents for walking and jogging with potential plans for a “dog off leash” area.

A spokesman from Northern Ireland Cross Community Angling said: “We are delighted to add Conlig Reservoir to our portfolio of lakes. It is an excellent blank canvas to develop over the next few years and will allow us to extend our delivery of projects and outreach programmes through Inspiring Impact and Theory of Change to offer a shared safe space to allow all communities to enjoy relaxation and recreation.

“We will now also for the first time be entering in to partnerships with new sports. It is with great anticipation that we look forward to and welcome this collaboration to bring something new to the Ards and North Down area.

“Finally we would like to thank the staff at DAERA Inland Fisheries for their support through this process so far.”
