Plans for 31 apartment and maisonette scheme at Portstewart's Harbour Road and Prom
Plans for a 31-apartment and maisonette development in Portstewart have been submitted to Causeway Coast and Glens Council.
The application is for 4-6 Harbour Road, Portstewart and 3a-3g The Promenade, Portstewart.
Planning permission is sought for the “proposed demolition of existing buildings to be replaced with a residential development comprising 31 apartments (including 20 social housing) and two maisonettes with ground floor parking and all associated site works”.
A Design and Access Statement said: “The proposal is for a five storey residential building comprising 31 apartments and two maisonettes with car parking provision on the ground floor.

"Twenty of the apartments are for social housing. The proposal will replace the existing built development presently on the site.
"The site is comprised of a group of building blocks 4 – 4B and 6 – 6A Harbour Road, and 3A – 3G The Promenade. The site is accessed off Harbour Road which forms the north western boundary of the site.
"The existing buildings are derelict save for a laundry at unit 3a The Promenade. Their overall height is a little below that of neighbouring buildings on Harbour Road. Previous uses appear to be apartments and storage.
"The proposal provides for 33 residential units. Under Policy HOU02 proposals for schemes of more than 25 residential units will be required to contribute to meeting the needs of the wider community, where there is an established need for social or specialist housing, as established by the Housing Needs Assessment.
"In the event of such a need arising the proposal nonetheless provides for 20 social housing units and therefore is capable of complying with the policy.”
